Coronavirus: What sporting events are affected by the outbreak?

COVID-19 Caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has become an ongoing global pandemic. The virus Which was first reported in Wuhan, hubei, China in December 2019. As at 12 March 2020, over 126,000 cases have been confirmed in more than 120 countries all over the world.

The pandemic has Not only affected economies and free movement of people but also the worlds biggest recreational activity “sports”.

Recently the NBA suspended its season after a player preliminarily tested positive for coronavirus. The announcement came after the NBA game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder was abruptly postponed on Wednesday night. Even though the individual symptoms has diminished, however, in precautionary measure the team has made a decision to test for COVID-19.

In tennis, the ATP and WTA Tours Also face shut down until May and the Fed cup finals is also postponed. Assuming the decision is finally approved, Then no tennis will be played on either of the main tours before the Madrid open which is due to begin May 3rd.
This weeks Indian Wells tournament was cancelled abruptly on Sunday after a case of the virus was detected locally.

In soccer, games across Europe and other parts of the world are being played without spectators to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The first Premier League game to be postponed which is the match between Manchester City and Arsenal. Arsenal had played Olympiacos two weeks ago and some players and staff members have contact with owner of Olympiacos Angelos Marinakis Who tested positive for the virus.
Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta, Leicester Center- back Dandie Amartey, Hudson-Odio have all tested positive for the virus.

France, Which has confirmed hundreds of cases will stop spectators at all games. league cup final between PSG and Lyon has been postponed.

The DFB and DFL are considering ending the Bundesliga season after this weekend. No trophy would be awarded and no regulation would take place; meaning 2020/21 season would have 22 teams.

The Olympics flame lighting ceremony in Greece on Thursday will also be held without spectators.

Other affected games are: Rugby, cricket, and Winter sports.
