Over 700 tourists flood Freetown

On the 16th February 2020 the president of the republic of Sierra Leone H.E Julius Maada Bio joined by His wife H.E Fatima Bio and many other dignitaries including her Lordship the Mayor of Freetown, the Minister of Tourism and the consul of the Hungarian embassy to Sierra Leone but to name a few, welcomed over 700 tourists from about 80 European countries to Sierra Leone.

The tourists were on the Budapest-Bamako rally, and decided to make Freetown their last stop. The Budapest-Bamako rally is a charity race in Africa and the largest amateur rally in the world. It is a low-budget version of the Dakar Rally and goes from Budapest, Hungary, to Bamako, Mali through the Sahara Dessert. The Rally passes through Hungary, Austria or Slovenia, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Mali. This being the first time ever for the rally to end in Sierra Leone.  

During the ceremony two representatives from Hungary made a donation of 5000 school bags and items to the Free Education initiative championed by the president of Sierra Leone. The Mayor of Freetown also presented they key of the city to the leader of the rally.

The president H.E Julius Maada Bio gave a warm welcoming speech to the guest and also highlighted beautiful places they would love to visit, he also encouraged the tourist to make Sierra Leone their holiday site.

At the end of the ceremony certificates were handed out to the participants of the rally by the Ministry of tourism. The tourists are expected to stay for about four days.
